About me

My name is Katharine, but I also go by Ruoxi (若羲), originally from Jiangsu, China. My MBTI keeps changing, so despite the test results, I consider myself a socially introverted person. Obtaining an Aerospace Engineering degree was an accident. Let me try to frame my story differently: I found it more cost-effective to study something I couldn't teach myself, especially since I couldn't afford a wind tunnel. No, that story is too practical; let me try again. I pursued it because I've been a Formula 1 fan since my teenage years, and I wanted to build Kimi Räikkönen a stable and fast car. Much better. Having worked in various roles and companies, both long-term and short-term, large and small, I find startups the most appealing. Changing the world has always been my dream. Although I know it's a tall order, it's worth the attempt. Discussing business is engaging, just not in an intro. In my personal life, I've interacted with over 50 people in what might loosely be called
'dates'
, though not in the conventional sense. Through these experiences, I've aimed not just to change the world but also to save it, whenever I have the time.

Online Retail Mastery & Offline Insights

My journey in retail is a tale of two worlds: the dynamic, fast-paced realm of online retail, and the tangible, sensory-rich experience of offline stores. With a background deeply rooted in retail, thanks to my mother's leadership role in a department store, I've been immersed in the sector from a young age. This unique upbringing gave me an early appreciation for the offline retail experience, setting the stage for my future career.

D2C E-commerce Expertise

As a product manager for a leading Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) e-commerce company in the eyewear vertical, I've spent years mastering the online retail space. My role allowed me to delve into the intricacies of how products move from manufacturing to the supply chain and from concept to consumer's hands. This experience has been instrumental in understanding the end-to-end process of retail in the digital age.

Expanding Horizons

Transitioning into the food retail industry, I broadened my understanding of retail's diverse verticals. This exploration into another sector provided valuable insights into the similarities and differences across retail niches, enriching my perspective on industry-wide challenges and opportunities.

Zero-to-One Ventures

Perhaps my most challenging and enlightening role was helping a company build from zero to one. This journey across various verticals—focusing on local SMBs and international trading—involved extensive research, understanding the global supply chain, leveraging the latest technology, and navigating venture capital dynamics. It was a deep dive into the essence of retail, blending traditional principles with cutting-edge innovations.

A New Chapter in Home Interiors

Most recently, my venture into the home interior retail industry has offered me a fresh perspective on how retail functions, adapts and thrives. This experience has been a testament to the ever-evolving nature of retail, teaching me the importance of flexibility, consumer understanding, and strategic foresight.

Conclusion

From online to offline, eyewear to home interiors, my retail journey is marked by diversity, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of understanding how to create meaningful consumer experiences. Each chapter of my career has contributed to a rich tapestry of knowledge, positioning me as a versatile and insightful retail strategist in the modern landscape.

Gaming Evolution

A Foray into the Gaming Universe

My initial lukewarm interest in gaming transformed after discovering otome games, revealing a passion for creating inclusive experiences. Recognizing the need for games catering to female gamers, I'm now focused on developing titles that provide emotional support and celebrate diversity. My goal is to enrich the gaming world with narratives and experiences tailored for all players, particularly women.

Early Gaming Experiences & Discovering Otome Games

Initially, video games barely piqued my interest, except for a few notable exceptions during my youth, such as "Monopoly 4," various car racing titles, and "Delta Force." This tepid enthusiasm extended to a day-long engagement with "Civilization." My exploration spanned a range of games - from "Dota" and "The Legend of Sword and Fairy" to "World of Warcraft" and "The Legend of Zelda." Despite this, I never considered myself a gaming aficionado. That changed dramatically when a friend introduced me to otome games. Despite initial skepticism, I found myself deeply engrossed in this genre, leading to a significant realization: my lack of interest in gaming stemmed not from a general disinterest but from not having encountered games designed with my preferences in mind.

Understanding the Gaming Industry

This journey ignited a curiosity about the gaming industry, particularly the oversight of female gamers in a field predominantly designed by and for males. My immersion into the gaming world allowed me to quickly grasp the industry's nuances and identify my aspirations within it: to deliver well-designed gaming experiences that provide value and support to players, especially those often overlooked by mainstream gaming narratives.

Vision for Female-Centric Gaming

Motivated by the desire to create inclusive and emotionally supportive gaming experiences, I am now focused on developing titles that cater specifically to female gamers and other underserved demographics. My aim is to design games that offer more than entertainment—they offer companionship, guidance, and mentorship, enhancing players' lives with emotional depth and engagement.

Current Endeavors & Future Ambitions

I am currently planning to develop a variety of games, including casual and simulation titles, with a particular focus on female-oriented narratives. This initiative is not just about creating games; it's about acknowledging the diverse spectrum of gamers and providing experiences that resonate with a broader audience.

Conclusion

From casual gaming to a profound appreciation for otome genres, my gaming journey reflects a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of inclusive and thoughtful game design. As I venture further into this field, my goal is to contribute to a more diverse and emotionally enriching gaming landscape, one that welcomes and celebrates the varied experiences of all players.
